The Media Discussion on Violence Against Women and Girl Children

The Centre for Gender Studies of the University of Kelaniya organized a “Media Discussion on Violence Against Women and Girl Children” on the 26th of October 2023, at the Auditorium of the Staff Development Centre, University of Kelaniya.
The discussion was organized with the objective of making society aware of violence against women and girl children.
Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe, Director of the Centre for Gender Studies welcomed the invitees and expressed her ideas under the theme “Social Impact on Violence Against Women (VAW) and Girl Children”. Cadre Chair and Senior Professor Anuruddhi Edirisinghe of the Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Kelaniya delivered her speech on “Medico-Legal Aspect on VAW and Girl Children Issues”.
Mrs. Renuka Jayasundara, Deputy Inspector General of Police, lectured on “Girl Children Abuses”. Mrs. Rasanjali Pathirage, President of the Disability Organizations Joint Front expressed her ideas on “Violence Against Differently Abled Girl Children”. Lawyer Chathura Gunarathna delivered his speech on “Legal Background Related to VAW and Girl Children”. Mrs. Iresha Dharmasena, National Committee on Women, Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, addressed “Function of National Committee on Women and Violence Against Women”.
Dr. Anusha Edirisinghe conducted the Q&A session marking the conclusion of the discussion. The event was graced by the invited media officers and journalists from reputed media networks and newspapers.
