The Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies (FCMS) of the University of Kelaniya successfully held its first-ever Internship Open Day & Career Fair on 30th October 2025,
marking a significant milestone in the faculty’s efforts to enhance industry collaboration and student employability. Organized by the Internship and Career Development Centre, the inaugural event brought together over 600 undergraduates and more than 116 industry representatives from 38 leading organizations at the F4 Building of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies.
As a comprehensive career-development initiative, the event provided third-year students with direct access to compulsory internship opportunities, while final-year students engaged with companies offering potential permanent placements. Several organizations conducted on-site interviews and career discussions, highlighting the growing demand for industry-ready graduates.
A series of skill development workshops were also conducted on the same day, as part of the Open Day. These included sessions on CV and LinkedIn profile building, personal grooming, and Power BI training. The workshops attracted exceptional participation and were instrumental in preparing students to present themselves confidently to employers attending the fair.
The event was graced by the presence of Professor Bandara Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, together with heads of the departments and other academic staff members of the faculty.
The event received strong sponsorship support, with Aitken Spence Maritime as the Gold Sponsor, Softlogic Life Insurance and Lion Royal Tourism as Silver Sponsors, and JAT Holdings as the Bronze Sponsor.
The success of the first-ever Internship Open Day & Career Fair 2025 reflects the University’s commitment to bridging academic learning with practical industry experience. The event established a strong foundation for future career fairs and reaffirmed FCMS’s dedication to producing competent, employable, and industry-ready graduates.
