The Inauguration Ceremony of the Orientation Programme of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya, was held on 9th February 2026 at the Sri Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya. The Orientation Programme will continue until 14th February 2026.
The programme was organized to warmly welcome new undergraduates admitted for the Academic Year 2024/2025, with the aim of familiarizing them with the academic environment, university culture, rules and regulations, and the wide range of facilities available at the University of Kelaniya.
Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, graced the occasion and addressed the new undergraduates, emphasizing academic integrity, discipline, and personal development during university life. Professor W. M. C. B. Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the Faculty’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development.
Professor K. K. Thilakasiri, Senior Student Counselor of the Faculty, addressed students on matters related to student welfare and guidance services available throughout their academic journey. Dr Kasun Fernando, Director of Student Affairs, and Mr K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar of the University of Kelaniya, briefed the new undergraduates on student services, administrative procedures, and university regulations.
The ceremony was attended by the Heads of the Departments of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, including Professor M. A. T. K. Munasinghe, Head of the Department of Accountancy; Professor H. A. K. N. S. Surangi, Head of the Department of Commerce and Financial Management; Professor J. M. R. Fernando, Head of the Department of Finance; Dr W. M. S. K. Wanigasekara, Head of the Department of Human Resource Management; and Dr S. S. J. Patabendige, Head of the Department of Marketing Management, together with Academic, Administrative, Academic Support, and Non-Academic Staff of the Faculty.
The Orientation Programme comprises a series of academic sessions, awareness programmes, and interactive activities designed to assist students in smoothly transitioning into university life and to lay a strong foundation for their future academic and professional careers.
