The Opening of the New Building Complex - Faculty of Computing and Technology

The state-of-the-art building complex of the Faculty of Computing and Technology, constructed under the Asian Development Bank-funded Science and Technology Human Resource Development Project, was opened on 10th May 2024.
Ms. Thilaka Jayasundara; the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, graced this occasion as the Chief Guest while Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge; the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, and Mr. Takafumi Kadono; the Country Director of Asian Development Bank participated as the Guests of Honour.
During this opening, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva; Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka; Registrar of the University of Kelaniya, Deans of the faculties, and other staff members and students represented the university. In addition, the occasion was graced by many distinguished invitees including the representatives of the Asian Development Bank and representatives from the industry.
The talents of the students of the Faculty of Computing and Technology were also showcased at this ceremony.
The formal opening ceremony was followed by a session on “Empowering Future Tech Leaders” where several alumni of the Faculty of Computing and Technology shared their experiences. Moreover, a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Ryotaro Hayashi; Senior Social Sector Economist - Asian Development Bank was held. The panellists included Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva; Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Mr. Jehan Perinpanayagam; Chairperson - SLAASCOM, Mr. Heminda Jayaweera; Entrepreneur and former COO of SLINTEC, and Mr. Pramoad Perera; Board Member, Diversity Collective, Sri Lanka.
