The Japanese unit of the Department of Modern Languages, University of Kelaniya organized an inauguration ceremony were held on the 01st of April 2022 at the K14 premises, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya.

This event's purpose was to mark the 70th anniversary of establishing and strengthening the diplomatic relationships between Japan and Sri Lanka.

Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, the vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka His excellency Hideaki Mizukoshi and his wife Ms. Mariko Mizukoshi were the chief guest of the event.

Dr. Sudath Senarath- Dean Faculty of Humanities, Senior Professor N. A. K. P. J. Seneviratne, Professor Dilrukshi Ratnayaka - Head of the Department of modern language, Mr. Koga Michio, Mr. Ikura Kazuyuki, Prof.Ananda Kumara from LNBTI Campus, Rev. Dr. T. Medhankara Thero and Dr.Madhubashini Deldeniya, Mr. Takayuki Kawakami and Ms. Nayomi Wijesekara from Japan Embassy in Sri Lanka, Dr. S.M. Punchibanda, Prof. H.D. Karunarathne and all the other lecturers from the University of Kelaniya were among honourable guest.
