"A Night of Cultural Fusion: A Twilight at Hallido Village"

A captivating cultural event titled "A Twilight at Hallido Village," hosted by the Korean Language Unit in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Kelaniya, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka, was held on the 8th of November 2024 at the Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya.
This event celebrated Korean and Sri Lankan cultures, bringing students, faculty, and the general public together.
The event was graced by Ms. Miyon Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, as the Chief Guest, while Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, honoured the event as the Guest of Honour. The Ambassador expressed her admiration for the vibrant Korean culture showcased by the students and pledged her continued support for Korean language education at the University of Kelaniya. She fondly reminisced about the previous year's cultural show and commended the students' dedication and talent.
The cultural extravaganza featured a diverse range of performances that captivated the audience. Traditional Korean dances, modern K-pop performances, and Sri Lankan cultural dances like Kolam and Paduru Sajjaya were showcased. A theatrical presentation of the Korean folktale "Heunbu and Nolbu" added a dramatic dimension to the event.
Dr. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Senior Professor Rev. Nadalagamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Head of the Department of Modern Languages; Ms. Soo Jung Lee, Secretary to the Korean Embassy; heads of the departments; professors; and lecturers of the University of Kelaniya participated in the occasion.
The event successfully bridged cultural divides, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Korean and Sri Lankan cultures. It showcased the talent and creativity of the students involved and highlighted the strong bond between the two nations.
