Senior Lecturer Priyankara Rathnayaka officially assumed duties as the new Head of the Department of Drama, Cinema and Television, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya, on 10^th June 2026 at the Department premises. The letter of appointment was formally handed over to the Head by Cadre Chair and Senior Professor Patrick Ratnayake, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.

Senior Lecturer Rathnayaka has over two decades of experience in academia, both as a lecturer and as an administrator.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts Special Degree (Honours) from the University of Kelaniya and a Master of Arts Degree in Drama and Theatre from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. His research interests include films, drama, and television (writing and acting).

The event was attended by the academic staff members of the Department of Drama, Cinema and Television.
