University of Kelaniya contributes to International Junior Science Olympiad-2021

A Sri Lankan team of students participated at the International Junior Science Olympiad which was held in Dubai, UAE, on 12-21 December The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is an annual individual and team competition in the Natural Sciences for students who are under sixteen years old on 31st December of the competition year. IJSO has been established in recognition of the significance of the Natural Sciences in general education.
The Olympiad was held in a hybrid model due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Sri Lankan students participated online under the observation of the organizers in Dubai. Participants successfully competed with other international students and were able to win a silver medal and two bronze medals. Students from 59 countries around the world participated in this event.
The Sri Lankan team was trained by Prof. H.H. Sumathipala, Department of Physics and Electronics, Country coordinator for International Junior Science Olympiad, Prof. W.U. Chandrasekara, Department of Zoology & Environmental management and Prof. Kapila Seneviratne, Department of Chemistry. Certificates and medals awarding was held at the Faculty of Science with the participation of Prof. Kalingamudali, Dean, Faculty of Science.
