License Agreement signed between NuEarth Foods Pvt Limited and the University of Kelaniya

The Granted patent, Patent File Number 21631 of the technology, a method for improving the shelf life and oxidative stability of edible oils, meat, egg- based foods, vegetables and preserving the color of the fruit or vegetable juices using coconut paring residue extract (CPRE) by the National Intellectual Property office of Sri Lanka (NIPO) was licensed to the NuEarth Foods Pvt Ltd.
The agreement was signed in an occasion organized by the University Business Linkage Cell, University of Kelaniya at the senate room, University of Kelaniya on 2nd of June, at 11. 30 a.m. onwards.
The technology was developed by the Principal Investigators at the Department of Chemistry, Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne and Professor Nimanthi Jayathilaka under the Research, Innovation and Commercialization grant by the Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) Operation.
This technology has been filed at the Patent Corporation Treaty (PCT) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The International Search Report for the technology is ‘good’, which indicates that the technology is novel, include inventive steps and industrially applicable.
The event of signing the license agreement for the technology transfer was presided over by Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor, University of Kelaniya. Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, the Registrar, University of Kelaniya, Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Senior Professor S. R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Chandima Jayasuriya, Head of the Department of Chemistry, Professor L. B. D. R. P. Wijesundera, Head of the Department of Physics and Electronics, Professor Nimanthi Jayathilaka, Department of Chemistry, Dr. M. P. Deeyamulla, the Former Director of the Technology and Innovation Support Center & the University Business Linkage Cell, Professor S. Wickramarachchi, Dr. Pradeep Samarasekere, the Director, University Business Linkage Cell graced the occasion.
Mr. Chinthaka Jayathilaka, Mr. Imdadh Marikar and Mrs. Natasha Peries, Directors of NuEarth Foods Pvt Ltd were among the other distinguished guests in the event.
