The inauguration ceremony of the 4th International Conference on Applied and Pure Sciences (ICAPS) 2023, organized by the Faculty of Science of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 13th of October 2023 at the B1 212 hall of the Faculty of Science.
The event was held under the theme “Sustainable Development through the Advancement of Science and Technology,” and was delivered in person as well as virtually through a live stream on YouTube.
The conference aimed to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals by providing an extensive platform for both academia and industry researchers from around the world to showcase their findings in the domains of Biological Sciences, Computing, Multidisciplinary research, and Physical Sciences while fostering collaborations.
Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya participated as the chief guest of the event while Senior Professor Ajith De Alwis of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering of the University of Moratuwa participated as the Guest of Honor. Mr K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, the Registrar of the University of Kelaniya, Dr C. C. Jayasundara, the Librarian of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Deans of other Faculties, and Heads of the Departments of the Faculty of Science participated as other honorary guests.
During this event, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya delivered an inspiring speech and launched the e-proceedings of the conference. Dr. Charith Nanayakkara, Principal Scientist at Applied Materials, Gloucester, MA, USA, delivered the keynote speech on “Next generation semiconductor device technology development” via Zoom. Senior Professor Ajith De Alwis shared his valuable insights into the development of science and engineering research titled “Research into Rupees”. Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Chairman of the Research Council of the University of Kelaniya also addressed the gathering.
Present at the occasion were the staff of the Faculty of Science.
