University of Kelaniya Signs Technology License Agreement with EDIC Enterprise Pvt Ltd

The University of Kelaniya signed a technology license agreement with EDIC Enterprise Pvt Ltd, a startup formed by the Electronic Design & Innovation Center (EDIC) of the Department of Physics & Electronics. This initiative was organized by the Centre for Technology Transfer & Industry Linkage (CTTIL), University of Kelaniya, and the formal signing took place on the March 21, 2025 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, University of Kelaniya.

The agreement granted EDIC Enterprise Pvt Ltd the rights to commercialize a groundbreaking non-invasive diabetes diagnostic technology developed at the university.

Mr. Tharindu Gurusinghe, Co-Founder and Director of the EDIC Enterprise Pvt Ltd signed the agreement representing the EDIC Enterprise Pvt Ltd, while Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Dr. Pradeep Samarasekere, Director of the CTTIL; and Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar, signed on behalf of the university. Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Professor Aruna Ranaweera, Coordinator of Electronic Design & Innovation Center (EDIC), University of Kelaniya, and co-inventor of the technology, signed as witnesses.

The event was also graced by the distinguished guests including Professor K. M. D. C. Jayathilaka, Dr. B. M. Thosini Kumarika, Dr. Hiruni Gunathilaka, Dr. Jehan Seneviratne, and Dr. Kasun Piyumal, the inventors & the co-inventors of the technology; and Mr. Raveen Seneviratne and Mr. Pubudu Jayasekara, Founding Directors of EDIC Enterprise Pvt Ltd.

This event marked a significant milestone in fostering university-industry collaboration. By facilitating the commercialization of research innovations, the university contributed towards Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable industrial growth and technological advancements. The University of Kelaniya remained committed to driving research-based entrepreneurship and technology transfer, ensuring that scientific discoveries led to impactful real-world solutions.
