An MOU was signed between the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, University of Kelaniya and Southwest University, Chongqing, China on the 12^th of June 2025 at the at the Vice Chancellor’s office. 

The specific objectives of the MOU include, exchange of students, exchange of faculty and staff members, joint research activities, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of academic materials and other information, developing and executing special academic programs, joint consultancies, short-term academic programs, and organizing joint conferences/seminars/workshops.

Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor, signed the MoU representing the University of Kelaniya. Signing on behalf of Southwest University, Chongqing, China, will be Prof. Zhao Yufang.

As the initial step of the collaboration, a team of Chinese undergraduates will visit the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology in due course/

Additionally, the event witnessed the presence of Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Professor Renuka Attanayake, Head of the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology; Professor  R. M. C. S. Ratnayake; and Senior Lecturer Priyangi Edirisinghe.
