The launch of “śrī lānkēya damiḷa sinamālōlīn” and the introduction of the Tamil feature film "jōkar sāmi"

In commemoration of the centennial of Sri Lankan cinema and the golden jubilee of the establishment of the Department of Mass Communication, in 2005, “śrī lānkēya damiḷa sinamālōlīn” (Sri Lankan Tamil Cinema Lovers), an experimental documentary film

was produced by the second-year undergraduates of the BA (Hons) in Cinema and Television Media Studies degree. The launching of this documentary and the introduction of another Tamil feature film called "jōkar sāmi", directed by Senior Lecturer Darshana Somaratne of the Department of Mass Communication, based on the previous documentary was held on the 17th of May, 2023 at 2.00 pm at the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The academic staff including Professor M. M. Gunatilake, Dean – Faculty of Social Sciences, Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, Head – Department of Mass Communication, Professor Patrick Rathnayake, Chairman – Art Council, and undergraduates were present at the occasion, while Emeritus Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa delivered the keynote speech of the ceremony.
