The launch of the official website of “Vimukthikami Wellassa 1818- 2018”, the national conference on commemorating bicentennial celebration of 1818 rebellion, jointly organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya and the Presidential Secretariat was held on the 15th of October 2018 at the Senate Room of the university.

Prof. Mohan De Silva, Chairman- University Grants Commission unveiled the new website and present at the occasion were Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya and Mr. Rohana Keerthi Dissanayake, Senior Additional Secretary to the President.

Moreover, Prof. Patrick Rathnayake, Dean- Faculty of Humanities, Senior Lecturer Dr. P.N.D. Fernando, Dean- Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, Senior Prof. Ariyarathna Athugala, Chairman- Arts Council, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, Counsellor- National E- Learning Resource Centre, Senior Lecturer Mr. Aruna Lokuliyana, Head- Department of Mass Communication and its academic staff members, academic staff members of the other departments and students graced the event.

The national conference on commemorating bicentennial celebration of 1818 rebellion, the first freedom struggle in Asia will be held on the 30th of November 2018 at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall-BMICH. At the conference, it is expected to launch the journal based on the 1818 rebellion, screen the documentary film and launch the “Keralikara Wellassa” encyclopedia.

Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa will deliver the keynote speech and Ven. Prof. Induragare Dhammarathana Thero, Senior Prof. Anura Manathunga and Uruwarige Wannila Aththo will also deliver speeches.
