University of Kelaniya Secures the Overall 2nd Runners-Up at Inter-University Track and Field Championship 2024

The ‘Inter-University Track and Field Championship 2024’ was held on the 4th and 5th of October 2024, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, with both male and female participants from all state universities participating.
In this competition, the University of Kelaniya achieved the overall 2nd runners-up position, while the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka claimed the overall championship, followed by the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as the overall 1st runners-up.
Several athletes from the University of Kelaniya delivered outstanding performances. Accordingly, W. A. M. R. Wijesuriya won gold medals in all 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m categories, while also setting new records in the 1500m and 5000m events. B. S. L. Mendis secured 1st place in all 400m, 800m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay events, breaking records in both the 800m and the 4x400m relay. K. S. Edirisinghe took 1st place in the 4x400m relay, which set a new meet record, and placed 3rd in the 400m race. S. A. K. Thathsarani also contributed to the relay teams, taking 1st place in the 4x100m and 4x400m events, which broke the meet record, and secured 3rd place in the 200m race.
In addition, H. M. N. K. Rathnayaka claimed 1st place in the 100m, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay. S. B. S. L. Dissanayake excelled in the 4x100m relay and 100m hurdles, securing 1st place in both events and finishing 3rd in the 100m race. Y. S. H. Kolambaarachchi placed 1st in the 400m hurdles, 2nd in the 4x400m relay, and 3rd in both the 200m and 4x100m relay. L. M. S. H. Lankathilaka earned 2nd place in the 1500m and 4x400m relay. P. W. M. K. D. Wickramasinghe won 2nd place in both 4x400m relay and triple jump, and 3rd place in the 110m hurdles. Anjana Pathum Munaweera claimed 2nd place in the 4x400m relay and 3rd in the 400m event. All S. M. D. Yohan Shavinda, T. S. P. De Silva and K. A. C. J. Wijesinghe finished 3rd in the 4x100m relay, while G. S. S. Ariyadasa took 3rd place in the triple jump.
