The ‘Inter-University Swimming Championship 2024’ took place on the 30^th of November and 1st of December at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, featuring talented participants from all state universities in Sri Lanka.

The University of Kelaniya’s men’s and women’s swimming teams delivered remarkable performances during the competition. S. M. S. S. Senarathne dominated the men’s events, clinching gold medals in the 200m Butterfly (02.17.80), 100m Butterfly (00.58.27), and 50m Butterfly (00.25.94), setting new records in all three categories. Similarly, H. M. S. U. Herath excelled in the women’s events, winning gold medals in the 100m Freestyle (01.04.70), 200m Freestyle (02.25.97), and 100m Butterfly (01.11.10), also setting new records in all three categories.

In addition, M. R. A. Rasheed secured third place in the Men’s 100m Backstroke category with a time of 01.16.36.

The University of Kelaniya Men's Relay Team, comprising S. M. S. S. Senarathne, M. R. A. Rasheed, W. A. S. R. Weerasuriya, and J. S. K. B. Jayasekara, secured third place in both the Men’s Medley Relay and Men’s Freestyle Relay events.

Overall, both the men’s and women’s teams of the University of Kelaniya earned the 3rd runners-up position, a testament to their dedication and skill in this prestigious event.
