Ms. W. A.  Methmi Rasara Wijesuriya of the University of Kelaniya, set a new National Record in the Women's 10,000m event, cloaking 33:39:60 seconds at the First National Selection Trials, organized by the Sri Lanka Athletic Association, which was held on the 8^th and 9^th of February 2025 at Diyagama Stadium.

In addition to this remarkable achievement, she secured the Gold Medal in the Women's 5000m event, clocking 16:03 seconds during the same tournament.

Ms. Rasara Wijesuriya from Ampara, is a student from the second batch of the BSc (Hons) in Sports Science programme, offered by the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya.

She broke the previous national record of 33:55.04 seconds, set by Hiruni Wijeyratne in 2017.
