The University of Kelaniya Hosts SLUSA Colours Awards Ceremony 2023–2024 to Honour 852 University Athletes

The University of Kelaniya was honoured to host the prestigious SLUSA Colours Awards Ceremony, organized by the Sri Lanka University Sports Association (SLUSA), on 30th May 2025 at the Faculty of Computing and Technology. This significant event celebrated the outstanding achievements of university athletes across Sri Lanka.
The event was held under the patronage of Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), who attended as the Chief Guest, reaffirming the importance of promoting sports within higher education.
A total of 852 student-athletes received SLUSA Colours for their exceptional performance in sports during the years 2023 and 2024, in recognition of their commitment, teamwork, and excellence in representing their respective universities at national and international levels.
In addition to Colours awards, a total of 26 special awards were presented for the year 2023 and 24 special awards for the year 2024, honouring individuals and teams who have shown outstanding contributions, leadership, and performance in university sports.
Furthermore, the champion teams of the Inter-University Championship 2024 were officially recognized at the ceremony. The team securing the highest overall performance was awarded the title of Overall Champion, while the 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up teams were also formally acknowledged for their achievements.
Senior Professor Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chairman of Sports Advisory Board, attended the event representing Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Moreover, the event was graced by the presence of Professor I. M. Karunathilake, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo; Registrars, Bursars, and academic staff members from state universities; Directors of Physical Education; and Instructors in Physical Education of member universities of SLUSA.
As the host, the University of Kelaniya proudly supports the holistic development of students by promoting both academic and athletic excellence. The SLUSA Colours Awards Ceremony not only honours past achievements but also inspires the next generation of student-athletes to uphold the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
