Rasara Wijesuriya Sets New National Record in 5000m at Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games – Summer

Rasara Wijesuriya, a third-year undergraduate at the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, pursuing a BSc Honours degree in Sports Science, has made the University and the nation proud by setting a new Sri Lankan national record in the women’s 5000m event on the 26th of the July 2025 at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games – Summer, held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.
Competing among top international university athletes, Rasara clocked an impressive time of 15.52.60 minutes, finishing 11th in the finals. With this remarkable performance, she surpassed the previous national record of 15:55.84 minutes, held by Gayanthika Abeyratne in 2021.
Rasara represented the University of Kelaniya at this prestigious global event, showcasing exceptional determination, skill, and endurance. Her achievement not only marks a personal milestone but also brings international recognition to the University and contributes to the advancement of athletics in Sri Lanka.
