The University of Kelaniya Maintains Strong Performance in UI GreenMetric Rankings 2024

The University of Kelaniya has retained its remarkable standing as one of Sri Lanka's top Green Universities in the prestigious UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.

While the university has been ranked second in Sri Lanka for 2024, it proudly holds a global position of 228, closely following the University of Peradeniya, which has claimed the number one spot in the country. Congratulations are in order for the University of Peradeniya for leading Sri Lanka in this important ranking.

The UI GreenMetric ranking evaluates universities based on six criteria: Setting and Infrastructure (SI), Energy and Climate Change (EC), Waste (WS), Water (WR), Transportation (TR), and Education and Research (ED). The University of Kelaniya continues to prioritize environmental sustainability in line with these criteria, exemplifying its dedication to being a green university.

The University of Kelaniya demonstrated significant improvements in key categories in the 2024 UI GreenMetric rankings. The Energy and Climate Change (EC) score increased from 1525 in 2023 to 1640 in 2024, reflecting advancements in renewable energy adoption and carbon footprint reduction. Additionally, the Education and Research (ED) score rose from 1650 to 1700, showcasing the university's strengthened focus on integrating sustainability into academic programs and research initiatives. These improvements highlight the University of Kelaniya’s dedication to enhancing its green practices and sustainability efforts.
