149th General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya

The 149th General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya was held ceremoniously on the 23rd of April 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
The convocation ceremony consisted of 03 sessions. During the 1st session, 22 graduands of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree, 07 graduands of the Doctor of Business Administration Degree, 23 graduands of the Master of Philosophy Degree, 81 graduands of the Master of Science Degree, 04 graduands of the Master of Public Health in Epidemiology Philosophy Degree, 79 graduands of the Master of Business Administration Degree, 19 graduands of the Master of Social Sciences Degree, 08 graduands of the Master of Commerce Degree, 06 graduands of the Master of Human Resource Management Degree, 27 graduands of the Master of Business Management in Marketing Degree, 11 graduands of the Master of Business Studies (One Year) Degree, 52 graduands of the Master of Information Technology (One Year) Degree, 31 graduands of the Master of Data Analytics (One Year) Degree, 07 graduands from the Master of Biochemistry & Biotechnology (One Year) Degree, 13 graduands of the Master of Environmental Management (One Year) Degree, 19 graduands of the Master of Industrial &Environmental Chemistry (One Year) Degree, 07 graduands of the Master of Crop Protection and Biotechnology (One Year) Degree, 04 graduands of the Master of Analytical Chemistry Degree, 67 graduands of the Master of Business Accounting Degree, 45 graduands of the Master of Business Finance Degree, and 01 graduand of the Master of Applied Microbiology Degree, offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, were conferred.
At this session, Mr. Saman Thilake Dissanayake was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Master of Business Administration Degree, for obtaining the highest GPA in the Master of Business Administration Degree.
During the 2nd session, 110 graduands of the Master of Arts (Two Year) Degree, 172 graduands of the Master of Arts Degree, 63 graduands of the Master of Professional Finance Degree, and 45 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma, offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and 112 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Management and Information Technology, 13 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Management and Information Technology, and 07 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, offered by the Faculty of Science, were conferred.
At this session, Ms. Rukmi Bhagya Weerakoon was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), for obtaining the highest GPA in the Master of Professional Finance Degree. Mr. Mihindukulasuriya Nimesh Shamika Tissera was awarded the Mastercard Digital Excellence Gold Medal, offered by the Mastercard Singapore Holding Pte. Ltd., for the Most Outstanding Performance in the Digital Innovation Research Project, and the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtain the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Management and Information Technology.
During the 3rd session, 120 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree, 15 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Environmental Conservation and Management, 45 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Software Engineering, 291 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Degree, and 63 graduands of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Conservation and Management, offered by the Faculty of Science, were conferred.
At this session, Ms. Rashmi Nisalka Jayasinghe was awarded the Most Venerable Ratmalane Sri Dharmaloka Nayake Thero Memorial Gold Medal, awarded by the Alumni Association of the University of Kelaniya, for obtaining the highest marks among all the Bachelor of Science Honours Degrees, offered by the Faculty of Science, and the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry. Ms. Saunda Marakkala Disara Rosheni was awarded the Professor C. Dahanayake Memorial Gold Medal, offered by Department of Physics and Electronics, for obtaining the highest GPA for all Physics course units offered in the Academic Programme together with a First Class, and the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematical Physics. Ms. Kumarasinghe Hettiarachchige Kethani Nimansa was awarded the Professor S. B. P. Wickramasooriya Memorial Gold Medal, offered by the Department of Mathematics, for the Most Outstanding Performance in Applied Mathematics and the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematics. Ms. Dasin Arachchila Gedara Gayashani Sasikala Samaranayake was awarded the Professor H. H. Costa Memorial Gold Medal, offered by the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, for the Most Outstanding Performance in Bachelor of Science Honours in Zoology Degree Programme. Ms. Tennakoon Mudiyanselage Upeksha Erandi Tennakoon was awarded the Sarojini Jayawardane Memorial Gold Medal for obtaining the highest marks in Microbiology, and the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Microbiology. Ms. Maradan Mudalige Tharusha Kawmini Navanjana was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Biochemistry. Ms. Rajapaksha Pathirannahalage Dharika Vidyadhi Rajapaksha was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Plant Biology. Ms. Mallawa Arachchige Nipuni Maleesha was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Statistics. Mr. Sukhitha Themiya Sandunwala was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Computer Science. Ms. Maheshi Chathurika Kularatne was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Computer Studies. Mr. Thiramuni Dulshan Sakila Ariyarathna was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Environmental Conservation and Management. Ms. Wirakkutti Arachchige Lakshi Wijayarathna was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Molecular Biology & Plant Biotechnology. Ms. Rathnayaka Mudiyanselage Sasini Isuruni Rathnayaka was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Software Engineering. Ms. Kosvinna Vidanelage Thanuja Udayangani Gunathilaka was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Science, for obtaining the highest GPA with a First Class in the Bachelor of Science Honours in Zoology. Ms. Batuwita Mudiyanselage Sadivya Shehani was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Bank of Ceylon, for obtaining the highest marks among all the Bachelor of Science Degrees, offered by the Faculty of Science. Ms. Wayuni Vinara Samarasinghe was awarded the Gold Medal, offered by the Alumni Association of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Conservation and Management, for obtaining the highest GPA in Environmental Conservation and Management course units. Mr. Heenatimullage Dhon Malsan Isuranga was awarded the Professor I. Balasooriya Memorial Gold Medal, offered by the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, for obtaining the highest GPA for the course units of Plant Biology. Mr. Liyanage Yamoth Madhubhashana was awarded the Sarojini Jayawardane Memorial Gold Medal for obtaining the highest marks in Microbiology course units.
Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Deans of the Faculties; Heads of the Departments; Registrar; Directors and Chairpersons of the Units and Centers; Academic and Non-Academic Staff; graduands; and their families graced the event.
