University of Kelaniya Signs MoUs with Mos Lanka Investments to Enrol Chinese Students into Postgraduate Programs

The University of Kelaniya took a significant step toward expanding its international academic outreach by signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Mos Lanka Investments (Pvt) Ltd. The official signing ceremony took place on May 22, 2025, at the Senate Room of the University.
These agreements are focused specifically on recruiting eligible Chinese students into the University’s one-year Master of Computer Science (MCS) and Master of Public Health (MPH) programs.
The MoU Signing Ceremony was held with great academic pride and was presided over by Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, and Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Chairman of Mos Lanka Investments (Pvt) Ltd. Representatives from Mos Lanka and their Chinese partner organization, including seven delegates, were also in attendance.
The event was also graced by the presence of several key figures from the University of Kelaniya, including Snr. Prof. Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Prof. Madhawa Chandratilake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Mr. K. K. K. Dharmathilake, Registrar, University of Kelaniya.
Joining them were respected academics, including Prof. Vasana Chandrasekara, Head of the Department of Statistics & Computer Science; Prof. Anuradhani Kasturiratne, professor in Public Health; Dr. Lathika Athauda, Head of the Department of Public Health & Coordinator MPH program; Dr. W. A. Chinthanie Weerakoon, Coordinator MCS; Dr. Thosini Kumarika, and Ms. Maheshi Dissanayake from the Department of Statistics & Computer Science, University of Kelaniya.
Representatives from Mos Lanka Investments (Pvt) Ltd, including Dr. Cyril Suduwella and Mr. Buddhapiya Ramanayake, and their Chinese partner organization, also attended and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting this initiative.
The MoUs pave the way for Mos Lanka Investments (Pvt) Ltd to coordinate with Chinese educational partners in identifying and recruiting qualified candidates to the university’s master's programs. This collaboration aligns with the University of Kelaniya’s vision of fostering global engagement and enhancing academic diversity.
The university expressed sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to making this partnership a reality and looks forward to welcoming the first cohort of Chinese students under this initiative.
