Annual Scholarship Awarding Ceremony Organized by the Alumni Association of University of Kelaniya Held Successfully

The annual scholarship awarding ceremony organized by the Alumni Association of the University of Kelaniya was held on 09th October 2025 in the Senate Room, University of Kelaniya.

The event was graced by the Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, Kithsiri Mewan Vihara, Former Head of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Aggamahapandit, Most Ven. Prof. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkitha Maha Thera; Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, the Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya; Senior Prof. S. R. D. Kalingamudali,  Dean of the Faculty of Science; Prof. K. G. H. D. Weerasinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Technology;  Prof. W. M. C. B. Wanninayake, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies;  Prof. M. M. Gunatilake, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. U. Sudath Senarath, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Mr. Raja Premadasa, President of the Alumni Association; Prof. Malwane Chandarathna Thero, Secretary of the Alumni Association; and  Prof. Narada Fernando, Chairman of People’s Bank, along with distinguished professors, lecturers, state officials, and generous donors.

A total amount of Rs. 3,750,000/- was allocated this year to support 151 selected students who continued their education amidst economic hardships. The funds were generated from the interest of the association’s fixed deposits, proceeds from musical and drama events such as “Vidulakara Gee Arambuma,” “Gira Hasa Sobha,” and  “Gee Miyesiya,” as well as donations from the Chancellor, university lecturers, executive committee members, and other well-wishers.

Under this program, monthly financial assistance was provided to students from various faculties of the University of Kelaniya who faced severe economic challenges yet pursued their higher education with great determination, with the noble objective of enabling them to continue their studies without interruption.
