154th General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya

The 154th General Convocation of the University of Kelaniya was held ceremoniously on the 17th of November 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
At this convocation, Most Ven. Dr. Thích Nhật Từ Thero, one of the most outstanding contemporary Buddhist scholars, educators, and leaders from Vietnam, was conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to advancing Buddhist education, promoting interfaith harmony, and integrating Buddhist values into contemporary society. Over more than three decades of distinguished service, he has become an inspiring figure whose intellectual contributions and compassionate leadership transcend national boundaries. His initiatives have enabled Vietnamese Buddhism to engage meaningfully with the global community, while his extensive publications, international lectures, and visionary projects have influenced Buddhist thought and practice across continents. Acknowledging these exceptional contributions, the University of Kelaniya deemed it timely and fitting to bestow upon him this prestigious academic honor.
The convocation ceremony consisted of 03 sessions. During the 1st session, 480 graduands of the Master of Arts Degree, offered by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies were conferred.
At this session, Ven Mathale Dhammadassana Thero was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies for obtaining the highest marks at the Master of Arts in Buddhist Counseling Examination. Mr. Lim Chin Soon was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies for obtaining the highest marks at the Master of Arts in Buddhist Counseling Examination. Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Anh was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies for obtaining the highest marks at the Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies Examination.

At this session, Mr. Katuwawalage Kapila Shanaka Katuwawala was awarded the Gold Medal presented by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) for obtaining the highest GPA in the Master of Professional Finance Degree.
During the 3rd session, 04 graduands of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree, 06 graduands of the Master of Philosophy degree, 17 graduands of the Master of Science Degree, 11 graduands of the Master of Arts (Two Year) Degree, and 57 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma, offered by the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology; 1 graduand of the Doctor of Business Administration Degree, 12 graduands of the Master of Human Resource Management Degree, 02 graduands of the Master of Business Management in Marketing Degree, 03 graduands of the Master of Business Administration Degree, 17 graduands of the Master of Business Accounting Degree, 09 graduands of the Master of Business Finance Degree, 13 graduands of the Master of Arts Degree, and 01 graduand of the Postgraduate Diploma, offered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies; 101 graduands of the Postgraduate Diploma offered by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali & Buddhist Studies; 92 graduands of the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery Degree offered by the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute; and 04 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Financial Engineering, 01 graduand of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Auditing and Forensic Accounting, 02 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Accountancy, 04 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Finance, 06 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Human Resource, 01 graduand of the Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Financial Management, 01 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce (Special) Degree, 04 graduands of the Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree, 04 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Entrepreneurship, and 04 graduands of the Bachelor of Business Management Honours in Business Technology, offered by the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, were conferred.
At this session, Ms. Yaddehi Arachchige Nayomi Nimanthika was awarded the Senaka Bandaranayake Gold Medal for the most outstanding academic achievement in Environmental Archaeology in the academic years 2022/2023. Ms. Karthigesu Dhilashini was awarded the Senaka Bandaranayake Gold Medal for the most outstanding academic achievement in Environmental Archaeology in the academic years 2023/2024. Mr. Sandra Marakkala Neranjana Nuwan Siripathi was awarded the Silver Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali & Buddhist Studies for obtaining the highest marks at the Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Ayurvedic Counseling Examination. Ven. Nguyen Tran Kim Ngan Thero was awarded the Silver Medal presented by the Postgraduate Institute of Pali & Buddhist Studies for obtaining the highest marks at the Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist Studies Examination. Ms. Deloluwe Gamaralalage Nirmani Sathyanjalee Weerasingha was awarded the Pandit G. P. Wickramarachchi Memorial Gold Medal, for excels in Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery Degree. Ms. Wijekoon Mudiyanselage Rashini Ruchirangani Wijekoon was awarded the Dr. P. D. P. Dharmavijaya Memorial Gold Medal, for excels in the course unit ‘Indigenous Practices of Medicine in Sri Lanka’ of the Department of Cikitsa, Maharshi Bharajwaj Gold Medal for excels in all core course units of the Department of Cikitsa at the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery Degree Examination, and the Maharshi Punarvasu Atreya Gold Medal for excels in the course units ‘Swasthavritta’, ‘Agada Tantra’, ‘Kaya Cikitsa I, II, III, IV’, and ‘Manasa Cikitsa’ of the Department of Cikitsa at the Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery Degree Examination.
