Another Session of Senate Awards held on the 24th of December 2025

Another session of presenting Senate Awards and Cash Prizes to appreciate the researchers at the University of Kelaniya was held on the 24th of December 2025 at the Senate Room of the university.
Researchers whose papers were published in internationally recognized journals, were appreciated and the Senate Awards and Cash Prizes were awarded to the researchers by Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Moreover, the deans of the faculties, heads of the departments, and members of the Senate graced the event.
Prof. Renuka N. Attanayake and Dr Rasika P. Wanigatunge from the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science; Dr Lathika Athauda from the Department of Public Health and Dr Harith Wickramasekara from the Department of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine; Dr Sanika Sulochani Ramanayake from the Department of Social Statistics, Faculty of Social Sciences; and Mr P. D. Avantha Prasad and Ms D. B. Hashini Indrachapa Bandara from the Department of Applied Computing, Faculty of Computing and Technology, received Senate Honours and Cash Prizes for having their research published in a Scopus Q1-ranked journal and listed among the Top 10%.
Prof. M. P. N. Janadari from the Department of Human Resource Management and Dr M. L. D. C. J. Liyanage from the Department of Finance, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; and Prof. Niranga Manjuri Devanarayana from the Department of Physiology and Mr Deshaka Jayakody from the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, received Senate Honours and Cash Prizes for having their research published in a Scopus Q1-ranked journal.
Senior Prof. G. A. S. M. Ganehiarachchi and Dr H. A. C. C. Perera from the Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, and Mr Jayantha Munasinghe from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science; Dr H. M. S. V. Silva from the Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies; and Mr Deshaka Jayakody from the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, received Senate Honours and Cash Prizes for having their research published in a Scopus Q2-ranked journal.
Senior Prof. Swarna Ihalagama from the Department of Sinhala, Faculty of Humanities; Prof. N. V. Chandrasekara and Ms B. R. P. M. Basnayake from the Department of Statistics and Computer Science, Prof. R. M. C. S. Ratnayake, Dr Harshini Herath, Dr Rasika P. Wanigatunge, and Ms Hewafonsekage Wasana Lakshani Fonseka from the Department of Plant and Molecular Biology, Dr M. C. S. Fernando from the Department of Mathematics, Dr P. L. A. K. Piyumal from the Department of Physics and Electronics, and Dr Medha J. Gunaratna and Ms. K. A. D. D. Sakunthala from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science; Mr Samankumara Hettige from the Health Science Data Unit, Faculty of Medicine; and Dr. A. W. A. Priyanwada Lakmali Wanigasooriya from the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, were recognized with Senate Honours and cash prizes for their research published in Scopus Q3- and Q4-ranked journals.
Mr. L. A. T. R. Perera from the Department of Computer System Engineering, Faculty of Computing and Technology, received Senate Honours for Scopus-Indexed Conference Full Papers.
Mr. Pasindu Jayathilake from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, received Senate Honours for Indexed Book Chapters.
Dr P. L. A. K. Piyumal, Ms Hiruni Eranga Wijesooriya, and Mr Tharindu Niroshan Gurusinghe from the Department of Physics and Electronics, Faculty of Science, Senate Honours and cash prizes for research leading to intellectual property outcomes other than patents.
