Professor W. A. P. Jeewantha Premaratne officially assumed duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya, on 26 March 2026 at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Science. The appointment letter was officially handed over to the Dean by Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya.

Prof. Jeewantha Premaratne is a Professor in Chemistry attached to the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya. He graduated with a BSc (Honors) Degree in Chemistry in 1997 at the University of Kelaniya. He obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2004. He conducted his postdoctoral studies at the University of Birmingham, UK in 2004 and at the University of Iowa, USA (2012–2014).

He served as a Senior Scientist and a Consultant at the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research (2009-2012) on national service. He served as the Head of the Department of Chemistry, University of Kelaniya (2023-2026). He served as the President of the Kelaniya University Teachers' Association (KUTA) (2022-2026) and the Treasurer of the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) (2024-2026). Prof. Jeewantha Premaratne has served various administrative and management positions at the University, and at national level professional organizations and government institutes.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Senior Professor P. A. K. K. Dharmathilaka, Registrar;  Ms W. L. S. Wijesekara, Acting Bursar; and Heads of Departments, along with academic, non-academic and academic-support staff members of the University of Kelaniya.
