Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony 2018

Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 01st of January 2019 at the Dharmaloka Hall of the University. The prime objective of the Long Service Awards and Vice- Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony which is being held annually since 2007, was to appreciate the service of the academic & non- academic staff members during the last year and further encourage them.

Letters of Appreciation were awarded to 07 academic staff members & 33 non- academic staff members appreciating their service for special contributions and 89 non- academic staff members who have taken minimum no. of leaves in the year 2018 also received Letters of Appreciation.

02 academic & non- academic staff members received Wall Plaques and Certificates for 40 years of continuous and meritorious service while 07 academic & non- academic staff members received Gold Plated Medals and Certificates for 35 years of continuous and meritorious service. Further, 11 academic & non- academic staff members received Silver Plated Medals and Certificates for 30 years of continuous and meritorious service while 38 academic & non- academic staff members received Bronze Plated Medals and Certificates for 25 years of continuous and meritorious service.

26 academic staff members received special awards for bringing honour to the University by winning prestigious national or international awards.

Moreover, Top 10 Researchers, the Outstanding Senior Researchers and the Outstanding Young Researchers in the University of Kelaniya were recognized and awarded.

Senior Lecturer Dr. S.D. Edirisinghe, Department of Commerce and Financial Management received the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies while Senior Lecturer W.A.S. Werakkodi, Department of Human Resource Management won its second place.

Prof. H.T.C.S. Abeysena, Department of Public Health won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Medicine while Prof. M.A. Niriella, Department of Medicine won its second place.

Prof. U.S. Amarasinghe, Department of Zoology and Environmental Management won the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Science while Senior Lecturer D.S.M. de Silva and Senior Lecturer Dr. C.S.K. Rajapaksha of the Department of Chemistry won the second and third places respectively.

Senior Lecturer Dr. R.A.S.P. Bandara, Department of Economics received the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Faculty of Social Sciences while Senior Lecturer Dr. M.G. Kularathne of the same Department won its second place.

Senior Lecturer Dr. T.R. Premathilake received the award for the Outstanding Senior Researcher of the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology while Prof. Raj Somadeva won its second place.

Moreover, the awards were distributed to the academic staff members for the Faculty with the Most Number of Research Papers, the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publications, the Recipient of the Highest Amount of External Research Grants, the Researcher with the Highest Number of Publications from University Research Grants, the Best Innovator in the University and the Best Promoter of International Relations in the University. The Heads of Units, Councils and Centers were also appreciated for their outstanding and selfless dedication.

All the awards, medals and certificates were distributed by the Vice- Chancellor Prof. D.M. Semasinghe. Present at the occasion were Senior Prof. Lakshman Senaviarathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Registrar, Bursar, Librarian, academic & non- academic staff members.
