Two Undergraduates from the University of Kelaniya for Excavations in Kapilwastu

Two Undergraduates from the University of Kelaniya for Excavations in Kapilwastu : For the first time in history, two undergraduates from the University of Kelaniya got selected as the researchers for a collaborative archaeological research project which is being conducted annually in Kapilawstu by the Department of Archaeology- Nepal, Lumbini Development Trust and Durham University-England.

Shashika Anushan & Disni Nishshanka of the Department of Archaeology were the undergraduates who got qualified as the researchers and the air tickets were distributed to the undergraduates by the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe on the 29th of January at the Vice- Chancellor’s Office.

Present at the occasion were Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean- Faculty of Social Sciences, Senior Lecturer Dr. Mangala Katugampola, Head- Department of Archaeology, Prof. Anura Manathunga, Director- Centre for Heritage Studies, academic staff members of the Department of Archaeology.

The financial grants for the air tickets were provided by the Faculty Development Fund and the allowances for the personal expenses were provided by the Vice- Chancellor’s Fund.
