Introducing Transitional Justice (TJ) to the Curriculums of the University of Kelaniya

The Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms has taken steps to introduce Transitional Justice to the curriculums of the University of Kelaniya.
The meeting was held among the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe and the officials of the Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms: Mr. Sanjeewa Wimalagunarathna, Director of Local Affairs Coordination Unit, Mr. Tharaka W.B. Hettiarachchi, Director of United Nations and International Affairs Coordination Unit, Mr. Eduardo Gonzalez- Strategic Consultant on the 18th of March 2019 at the Vice- Chancellor’s Office.
The other academics present at the occasion were Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Sudath R. D. Kalingamudali and Senior Lecturer Sithara Priyadarshana, Head- Department of International Studies.
At the end of the discussion the University of Kelaniya agreed to incorporate Transitional Justice into their curriculums. Transitional Justice is a rich cross disciplinary subject which is a combination of real world practices and high level academic knowledge. Its Inclusion into the university curriculum will provide in-depth knowledge on fields of human rights, humanitarian, democracy, rule of law and transitional justice and it will uplift practical skills to address the current challenges in the field.
