The Rugby team of the University of Kelaniya got qualified for the finals of Sri Lanka University Games (SLUG) after 27 years at the XIII SLUG 2019 organized by the University of Ruhuna. The Rugby team of the University of Kelaniya got qualified for the SLUG final for the last time at the SLUG 1992.

The Rugby team started their way towards the finals of the SLUG 2019 with a tremendous win over the South Eastern University by 52 – 0 which was held on the 06^th July 2019. The second match was held on the 13^th July against Wayamba University and Kelaniya beat Wayamba by a score of 31 – 5. The last match of the group stage was held on the 20^th July against Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and at the end Kelaniya Rugby team managed to win the match by 17 – 15. With this victory University of Kelaniya immerged as the first of the group D.

The quarter final match was held on the 27^th July against the University of Ruhuna and Kelaniya managed to beat Ruhuna by 27 – 12. The half- time score was Kelaniya 10 (2T) - Ruhuna 07 (1T 1C). The full time score was Kelaniya 27 (5T 1C) - Ruhuna 12 (2T 1C).

The semi- final match was held on the 02^nd of August against the University of Moratuwa. At the end of the half- time Kelaniya lead the score as 06 (2P) – 05 (1T). During the second half of the match Kelaniya scored 17 (2T 2C 1P) where Moratuwa was able to score 10 (2T). The final score of the match was 23 (2T 2C 3P) – 15 (3T).

The final match is scheduled to be held on the10^th of August at the BOI Grounds, Koggala.
