MOU between the University of Kelaniya and the Department of Forest Conservation

An MoU was signed between the University of Kelaniya and the Department of Forest Conservation, for the purpose of handing over 150 Hectares of forest to the University on the 23rd of October 2019 at Mihiliya Hall, BMICH.
University of Kelaniya has been officially declared as the first green university in Sri Lanka in 2014 by adopting an environment policy. Since then, university of Kelaniya has been implemented many strategies through Center for Sustainability Solutions in order to guarantee sustainable development. Prof. Bimali Jayawardane, Dean- Faculty of Science also assisted in making this effort a success. University is planning to enrich habitats and restore the forest reserve with the help of potential sponsors.
Present at the occasion were Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor, Ajith Mannapperuma, Hon. State Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Prof. B.M. Jayewardene, Dean- Faculty of Science, Senior Lecturer Dr. Rangika Bandara, Director- Center for Sustainability Solutions, academic staff members and Mr. W.A.C. Weragoda, Conservator General of Forests.
