On the 01st of November 2019 the University Bodhi tree’s encircling wall (bodhiprākāra) and golden fence (ran väta) were constructed. This was done in honour of 144th anniversary of Vidyālankāra Monastic School for Oriental Studies, the jewel of Kelaniya University, and was made possible through charitable funds. The Bodhi tree itself derives from a branch of the Jaya-ŚrīMahā Bodhi tree at Anuradhapura.

In accordance with the vision of Venerable Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, the committee chairman, an additional wall, decorated with both traditional engraving and new cloud-shape (valākulu) engraving unique to Kelaniya University, has been assembled around the perimeter of the premises.
