The first round competitions of “Kalana 2018”: Performances, Media, Art and Literature Competition organized by the Arts Council, University of Kelaniya was held on the 22nd, 23rd and 25th of October 2018 at the university premises. This competition which is organized with the objective of developing art and communication skills also results in strengthening the collaboration among the undergraduates.

The photography competitions were held on the 22nd at the Art Gallery of the university and the two Veteran Photographers Mr. Indranatha Thenuwara and Mr. Henry Rajakaruna represented the board of judges. On the same day, the two Veteran Music Players, Mr. Samantha Perera and Mr. Mahinda Bandara represented the board of judges of the playing competition. The two Veteran Dancers, Mr. Ravibandhu Vidyapathi and Ms. Samanthi Vidyapathi represented the board of judges of the dancing competititon.

The Annual Cultural Exhibition- 2018 organized for the 04th time by the Research Centre for Japanese Studies in collaboration with the Japanese Club was held on the 24th of October 2018 at the university premises. It was organized with the objective of enhancing the cultural awareness among the secondary school students and developing event organizing skills, communication and group work among the university students.

Nearly 500 students representing 53 schools participated in the exhibition and practical activities based on the Japanese culture was a novel experience for the students.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Dilrukshi Rathnayake, Head- Department of Modern Languages, Ms. Naho Komatsubara, Japanese Language Specialist, Ms. Madubhashi Deldeniya, Subject Coordinator- National Institute of Education, academic staff members of the Department of Modern Languages, school teachers, undergraduates and the school children graced the event.

 

A special discussion between the University of Kelaniya and the University of Rouen was held on the 22nd of October 2018 at the Office of the Vice- Chancellor, University of Kelaniya. Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the university and the Prof. Fabienne Leconte, Head- Department of Language Sciences and Communication of the University of Rouen led the discussion representing the University of Kelaniya and the University of Rouen.

Initial discussions were held on strengthening the partnership, introducing a Master of Arts in French Studies and providing scholarship opportunities for students. During the discussion, Prof. Fabienne Leconte emphasized the fact that the University of Rouen is one of the partner universities of the University of Kelaniya.

A special awareness programme on how to receive financial grants for image building activities of academic departments was jointly organized by the Centre of Excellence for Strategic Brand Identity Development- CESBID and the Staff Development Centre, University of Kelaniya. This workshop which was organized with the objective of providing awareness on the management and the effective usage of financial resources received by the academic departments, units, councils, centres in developing the brand image of the university, was held on the 25th of October 2018 at the Auditorium of the Staff Development Centre.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Ravi Dissanayake, Director- CESBID and Senior Lecturer Mr. Aruna Lokuliyana, Head- Department of Mass Communication were the resource persons of the programme. Moreover, Senior Lecturer Dr. Bandara Wanninayake, Director- SDC including the Heads of Departments, Directors of Units, Councils and Centres, academic and academic support staff members also graced the event.
