A special awareness programme on how to receive financial grants for image building activities of academic departments was jointly organized by the Centre of Excellence for Strategic Brand Identity Development- CESBID and the Staff Development Centre, University of Kelaniya. This workshop which was organized with the objective of providing awareness on the management and the effective usage of financial resources received by the academic departments, units, councils, centres in developing the brand image of the university, was held on the 25th of October 2018 at the Auditorium of the Staff Development Centre.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Ravi Dissanayake, Director- CESBID and Senior Lecturer Mr. Aruna Lokuliyana, Head- Department of Mass Communication were the resource persons of the programme. Moreover, Senior Lecturer Dr. Bandara Wanninayake, Director- SDC including the Heads of Departments, Directors of Units, Councils and Centres, academic and academic support staff members also graced the event.

Senior Lecturer Ms. Anoma Rathnayake from the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, Faculty of Social Sciences won IFPEFSSA 2018 (International Federation of Physical Education, Fitness and Sport Science Association) International Award. She received this award for her exceptional contribution to the field of Physical Education and Sports Science.

She had been received the award at the International Workshop on Physical Education and Sport Science- 2018 which was held on the 10th of October 2018 at the Nizam College, Hyderabad, India. Senior Lecturer Ms. Anoma Rathnayake delivered the keynote speech and it was for the first time that a Sri Lankan delivered the keynote speech at an international conference on Sports Education.

Another session of presenting Senate Awards and Cash Prizes to appreciate the researchers in the University of Kelaniya was held on the 25th of October 2018 at the Senate Room of the university.

Researchers whose papers were published in internationally recognized journals in 2017 and 2018 were appreciated and the Senate Awards and Cash Prizes were awarded to the researchers by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the university. Moreover, Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the university, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and members of the Senate graced the event.

A second year special degree undergraduate of the Visual arts, Design and Performing Arts Unit, Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya received a scholarship award by Ms. Champani Devika Devaraja. A scholarship is being awarded annually by Ms. Champani Devika to a special degree undergraduate who demonstrates academic excellence at the first year examination and this year, the scholarship was obtained by Malki Jayakodi, a second year undergraduate.

Ms. Champani Devika Devaraja is an adroit artist who obtained her first degree from the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Kelaniya and she is also the Founder of Champani Devika Foundation.

The scholarship was awarded by Ms. Champani Devika Devaraja on the 16th of August 2018 at the witness of Senior Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice Chancellor and Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathna, Deputy Vice Chancellor. Prof. Prashanthi Narangoda, Head- Department of Fine Arts, Senior Lecturer Ms. Dulanga Gunarathne and academic staff members of the Visual arts, Design and Performing Arts Unit also graced the event.
