A special discussion was held on 27th October 2023, at the Research Center of the Faculty of Social Sciences between Professor M. M. Gunatilake, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, and Professor Aaron Russell, the Assistant Head of School (International), School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Deakin University, Australia.
Under the Palm Leaf Manuscripts Collection and Digitization project conducted by the Palm Leaf Manuscripts Study and Research Library (PLMSRL), attached to Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya, the first event of collecting and digitizing of Palm Leaf Manuscripts commenced at Palm Leaf Manuscripts repository available at the Meerigama Wal Bothale Raja Maha Vihararya on 13th October 2023 after the temporary suspension of the task,
The Palm Leaf Manuscript Study and Research Library can be considered as one of the most important heritage centres of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Kelaniya. The library always encourages donors to donate palm-leaf manuscripts all over the island. Dr. Kelum Puspha Kumara from Anuradhapura donated 44 palm leaf manuscripts to the centre on 20th of October 2023.
Department of Archaeology of the University of Kelaniya, and the Department of Archaeology and History of the La Trobe University, Australia look forward to working together to enhance the Archaeological research in Polonnaruwa to a greater extent.
