Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sri Lanka, and Goethe-Institute Sri Lanka visit University of Kelaniya

Mr. Stefan Winkler, Director- Goethe-Institute Sri Lanka (German Cultural Institute), Mr. Rakitha Karunaratne, Head- Language Department, Goethe Institute, and Mr. Christian Seiffert, Head of Cultural Affairs, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sri Lanka called upon Cadre Chair & Senior Prof. Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya on the 09th of November 2021.
The purpose of the visit was to donate books relevant to the teaching of new BA Honours Degree Programme in German Studies to the teachers’ library of the German Section and three laptops to facilitate online projects and teaching of the study programmes in German Studies. Discussions were also held on avenues for future cooperation including the restructuring of the Interactive Learning Centre for German Studies (Deutsche Lernwerkstatt) currently located in K14 of the Faculty of Humanities.
Present at the occasion were Senior Prof. Neelakshi C. Premawardhena of the German Section, Director- Centre for International Affairs and Ms. Sarasi Kannangara, a lecturer in the German Section of the Department of Modern Languages.
The delegation also toured the Main Library of the university facilitated by the Librarian Dr. C. Jayasundara and held further discussions on future cooperation at the Department of Modern Languages.
The Goethe Institute and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sri Lanka have constantly supported German Studies at the University of Kelaniya with donations of books, teaching material and equipment, scholarships, grants, opportunities for capacity building for staff and students.
