3rd International Conference on Sanskrit and Eastern Studies organized by the Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya was held on the 08th of November 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. This conference was held for the 3rd consecutive time, with the objective of improving undergraduates’ knowledge on Sanskrit and Eastern Studies.

Dr. Prasad Bhide, Assisstant Professor of the Department of Sanskrit of K.J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce affiliated to Mumbai University delivered the keynote speech of the event, based on the theme ‘Assimilation and Dissemination of Knowledge in Indian Tradition’.

Junior Academic Research Symposium organized by the Staff Development Centre of the Faculty of Humanities was held on the 14th of November 2018 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Humanities. The prime objective of this symposium which was held for the first time was to develop research skills of the probationary lecturers of the Faculty of Humanities.

43 nationally important research papers out of 60 research studies conducted by the probationary lecturers of the Faculty of Humanities, were presented at the Symposium. A journal that includes all the research papers presented at the Symposium was also launched on the same day.

A discussion between the University of Kelaniya and the K.J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce, India was held on the 07th of November 2018 at the Office of the Vice- Chancellor. Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of University of Kelaniya and Dr. Prasad Bhide, Assistant Professor- Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce led the discussion.

The idea of strengthening the relationship between the two universities was emphasized during the discussion.

In relation to the discussion, Dr. Prasad Bhide who visited the university as a senior scholar to the Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies was introduced to the Vice- Chancellor. The introduction was done by Senior Lecturer Ven. Walapane Gnanasena Thero, Head- Department of Sanskrit and Eastern Studies.

The inauguration ceremony of the 10th batch of the Diploma in Photography organized by Drama & Theatre and Image Arts Unit of the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya was held on the 11th of November 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. This was organized with the objective of providing knowledge to probationers and veterans who have lost the opportunity to gain university education and socializing photography as a subject.

This inauguration was held for the 10th batch of the Diploma in Photography and the batch consists of more than 80 students.
