National Research Conference on Mass Communication organized for the first time by the Department of Mass Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 08th of December 2018 at the premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The conference was held with the objective of fulfilling the shortage of national research conferences on Mass Communication and improving research skills of the undergraduates. Providing assistance for the development of the country with the new knowledge gained through research was another objective of the conference.

Prof. Chandrasiri Rajapaksha delivered the keynote address of the event emphasizing on the expansion of Mass Communication as a subject with respect to language, literature and culture.

A Sangagatha Dakshinawa jointly organized by the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya and the undergraduates who follow B.A. (Special) Degree in Sports and Recreation Management was held on the 28th of November 2018 at the premises of the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education.

The ceremony was held in order to mark the new appointment of Senior Lecturer Mr. Jayantha Kalansooriya. Eight monks participated in the ceremony which was held wishing the goodwill of the department.

A collaborative project involving the University of Kelaniya, Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg in Germany, the Central Cultural Fund, and the Department of Archaeology documenting the world famous paintings at Sigiriya using 3-D mapping technologies was successfully concluded recently. This was the first campaign of a multi-year collaborative project between the four institutions that envisaged to document more heritage sites of Sri Lanka using the same or similar mapping technologies. The project that commenced on 12th October was concluded on the 7th November.
