“Vista 2018”: Arts and Creation Exhibition jointly organized by the Visual Arts, Design & Performing Arts Unit of the Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya and the Visual Arts Students’ Association was held on the 27th, 28th and 29th of November 2018 at the premises of Senaka Bandaranaike Hall. This was held with the prime objective of improving & appreciating creative skills of the undergraduates and creating a friendly environment within the University by motivating them towards Aesthetics.

This exhibition which was organized in relation to a course unit of Visual Arts degree programme, consisted of paintings, sculptures and carvings relevant to different traditions.

A foreign artist, Mr. Vijaya Khan conducted lectures on all the three days of the exhibition.

‘Sanjanani 2018’ – Communication & Public Relations Festival organized by the Department of Mass Communication was successfully held from the 08th to 12th of December 2018 at the University premises. This programme which was held for the 17th consecutive time, was organized under the assistance of the undergraduates who follow B.A. (Special) Degree in Mass Communication and B.A. (Special) Degree in Mass Communication & Media Management.

In relation to ‘Sanjanani 2018’ – Communication & Public Relations Festival, a National Research Conference on Mass Communication was held on the 08th of December at the University premises and it was organized for the first time.

The final round of “PHRONESIS MIND- 2018” Quiz Competition implemented under “STATICA- 2018” organized by the Department of Social Statistics of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 16th of November 2018 at the premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The competition was organized with the objective of reinforcing A/L students to study Business Statistics and popularizing the subject.

Around 70 students representing all the schools in the Western Province participated in the Inter- School Quiz Competition. The teams from St. Lawrence’s Convent- Colombo and Nalanda College- Colombo got selected for the final round. The team which represented the Nalanda College- Colombo won the championship of “PHRONESIS MIND- 2018”.

Undergraduate Research Symposium on Environment and Development organized by the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya for the 2nd consecutive time was held on the 03rd of December 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. This was organized with the objective of improving research skills of the students and thus, utilizing the knowledge discovered through research for the national development.

Senior Lecturer Ven. Dr. Pinnawala Sangasumana Thero, Department of Geography, University of Sri Jayewardenepura delivered the keynote address of the event emphasizing on seeking sustainable solutions for contemporary development issues: applied geography in local perspective.
