“The Lord of the Debates- 2018” inter- departmental debating competition organized by the first year undergraduates of the Department of Finance, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was held on the 17th of October 2018 at MBA hall. The competition was organized with the objective of developing soft skills of the undergraduates and strengthening the cooperation between the departments.

The debating teams representing the Department of Commerce and Financial Management. Department of Human Resource Management, Department of Finance, Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, Department of Marketing Management, Department of Mathematics, Department of Political Science, Department of Statistics & Computer Science and Department of Accountancy participated in the competition. Out of those, the teams from the Department of Human Resource Management, Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistic and Computer Science got selected for the semi- finals and the judgements were made by the board of judges consisting 15 academics.

“HR IMPELZ- 2018” annual sports meet organized by the second year students of the AHEAD Association of the Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was held on the 19th of October 2018 at the Saiba ground of the university. The sports meet which was organized with the objective of developing sports skills, creative abilities, organizing skills and mutual understanding between the students, was held for the 09th time.

Each group at the competition comprised of the students from the Department of Human Resource Management and ‘Marians’ group won the championship of the entire competition. Moreover, ‘Space Challenges’ group won the ‘Best Logo’ championship while ‘Alpha Pack’ group won the ‘Best Video’ championship.

“Stock Market 2018” inter school quiz competition organized by Finance Student’s Association of the Department of Commerce and Financial Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was held on the 05th of September 2018 at the Dharmaloka Hall. The objective of this quiz competition which was held for the fourth time, was to broaden the school children’s knowledge on the stock market.

Royal College- Colombo, Ananda College- Colombo, Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya- Gampaha and Kolonnawa Balika Vidyalaya got selected for the final round at this quiz competition which was held with the participation of 70 schools.

The competition was held under the patronage of Senior Lecturer Dr. P.N.D. Fernando, Dean- Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya and Mr. Hasitha Saman Athapaththu, Chief Financial Director- LB Finance PLC.

Mr. Suneth Perera, Assistant Director- Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, Mr. Hasitha Saman Athapaththu, Chief Financial Director- LB Finance PLC, Prof. C. Pathirawasam and Senior Lecturer Mr. S.A.R. Lasantha, Department of Commerce and Financial Management, University of Kelaniya included the board of judges.

The inauguration ceremony of Master of Commerce offered by the Department of Commerce and Financial Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was held on the 02nd of September 2018 at the Faculty Board Room of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies. The event was held with the objective of introducing the course units and the academic staff members to newly enrolled students.
