The celebration of Deepavali organized for the first time by the Peace Club of the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 08th of November 2018 at the Department of Philosophy. The celebration was organized with the objective of providing an insight into Deepavali festival and improving cooperation among religions at the university level.

The event comprised of Hindu cultural performances related to Deepavali and a vivid image was created through the drawn Kolam designs and the lamps lit by the undergraduates. Moreover, the undergraduates got an opportunity to taste some food items which are unique to Hindus.

A book fair and a book exchange programme organized by the Library and Information Science Students’ Association of the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social sciences was held on the 04th and 05th of October 2018 at the premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences. This was organized with the objective of commemorating the National Reading Month.

The National Library Board, Nine Publications and Sakura Stationaries specially participated in the book fair and it also comprised of a special stall named ‘Lecturer Publication’, containing the books written by the academic staff members.

The Initial round of “PHRONESIS MIND- 2018” Quiz Competition implemented under “STATICA- 2018” organized by the Department of Social Statistics of Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held from 29th of October to 02nd of November at the premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The competition was organized with the objective of reinforcing A/L students to study Business Statistics and popularizing the subject.
