A Blood Donation Programme organized by the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 02nd of November 2018 at the Indoor Stadium of the university.

This process which was commenced in the year 2003 during the period of war in order to supply blood needed for disabled soldiers, is now being used to treat patients in Sri Lanka. This blood donation programme which is being organized annually, was held for the 16th consecutive time.

“Our Country, Our People” Photography Exhibition organized for the first time by the Peace Club of the Department of Philosophy, University of Kelaniya was held on the 29th of October 2018 at the Art Gallery of the university. “Exhibition for Dialogue, Dialogue for Action, Action for Change” was the theme of this exhibition which was held with the objective of creating a social discourse on humanity and thus, redirecting the society into a different path.

This exhibition comprised of a collection of artistic photos captured by the undergraduates who follow B.A. (special) Degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution, emphasizing the impact of war and the need for peace to create a new social perspective on equality.

The inauguration ceremony of Diploma in Disaster Management offered by the Department of Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences was held on the 27th of October 2018 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The inauguration was held for the 07th batch of the diploma and it consists nearly 25 students. This was held with the objective of introducing the course units and the academic staff members to newly enrolled students.

Dr. Vishaka Hidellage, Senior Advisor- United Nations Development Programme delivered the keynote speech of the event which was held under the patronage of Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean- Faculty of Social Sciences. Dr. Hidellage who has contributed to this programme as a Sri Lankan representative and an Assistant Director, delivered her speech on disaster risk reduction and climate adaption.

A special workshop on makeup and prosthetic organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya was held on the 01st of October 2018 at the Audio Visual Studio of the Department of Mass Communication.

Mr. Davy Tones and Ms. Abbie Bingham, two veteran makeup artists from United Kingdom were the resource persons of this workshop which was held with the objective of improving the knowledge of the undergraduates who follow Film Studies. It was a great success as a result of the theoretical activities carried out along with the practical activities.

The workshop aimed at the undergraduates who follow the course units on Film Studies under Bachelor of Arts (special) Degree in Mass Communication and Bachelor of Arts (special) Degree in Film and Television.
