A teacher training workshop for school counselling teachers organized by the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Strategic Brand Identity Development- CESBID was held on the 09th and 10th of October 2018 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences. The prime objective of this workshop which was held to commemorate World Mental Health Day, was to develop counseling skills of the school counselling teachers and psychosocial skills of the students. Nearly 100 teachers participated in this workshop which was held aiming the school teachers of Colombo Educational Zone.

The event was held under the patronage of Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor and Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean- Faculty of social Sciences, Mr. R. Wijerathne, Assistant Zonal Director of Education in Counselling (Colombo Educational Zone), Senior Lecturer Dr. Tharanga Dharaneetha, Head- Department of Philosophy, Heads of Departments, academic staff members of the Department of Philosophy also graced the event.

A workshop for the school teachers of Political Science organized by the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Science, University of Kelaniya was held on the 12th of October 2018 at the Kularathna Hall of Ananda National College, Chilaw.

The workshop was organized with the objective of discussing issues regarding the new syllabus with the school teachers and the school teachers of Political Science from both Puttlam and Chilaw regions participated in the event.

The event was held under the patronage of Senior Lecturer Terance Purasinghe, Head- Department of Political Science, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Senior Lecturer Yamuna Mendis, Department of Political Science, University of Kelaniya. Mr. Saddhamangala Subasinghe, Zonal Director of Education- Chilaw, Ms. C.I. Sujeewika, Zonal Director of Education- Puttlam graced the event. Moreover, academic staff members of the Department of Political Science, University of Kelaniya also participated in the event.

Inauguration ceremony of Diploma in Sports Management offered by the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education was held on the 24th of August 2018 at the Board room of the Faculty of Social Sciences. This inauguration ceremony for the first batch of the , was held with the objective of introducing course units and the academic staff members to newly enrolled students.

The event was held under the patronage of Prof. A.H.M.H. Abayarathne, Dean- Faculty of Social Sciences and the keynote speech was delivered by Prof. B.L.H. Perera, Visiting Professor- Department of Sports Science and Physical Education. He expressed his ideas on the relationship between a diploma holder and a sports manager and the importance of this diploma for a sports manager.

Dr. Namali Suraweera assumed duties as the new Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Kelaniya. The appointment letter was handed over to Dr. Namali Suraweera by Prof. D.M.Semasinghe, Vice-Chancellor of the University on the 17th of September 2018 at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya and the academic staff members of the Department of Library and Information Science also graced the event.
