A press release organized by the Communication and Media Unit of the University of Kelaniya, under the supervision of its Director, Senior Lecturer Saman Rajapaksha, was held on June 2, 2025, at the Senate Room of the University. The event was convened to officially introduce the newly established In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Centre at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, and to announce its significant achievement, Sri Lanka’s first successful IVF pregnancy within the government healthcare sector.

The University of Kelaniya team secured the championship at the Grand Finale of the Fourth Inter-Medical Faculty Forensic Medicine Debating Tournament 2024-2025, which was organized by the Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, together with the Aura-media Club of the Faculty of Medicine. The event was held successfully on March 29, 2025, at the Main Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya.

A distinguished delegation of international allied health professionals, led by renowned occupational therapist and the former president of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, Professor Kit Sinclair, visited the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, on the 25th of February 2025, as part of their educational tour in Sri Lanka. The event, hosted by the Department of Disability Studies, aimed to foster collaboration between Sri Lankan occupational therapy students and the global professional community.

A newly upgraded Lung Function Laboratory was officially opened by the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya, on the 10th of February 2025 at the department premises. The event marked a significant milestone in the enhancement of respiratory healthcare and research in the region. The upgraded facility, which is the only one in the Gampaha District capable of providing full lung function and respiratory muscle strength assessments, was developed with support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Department of Physiology itself.
