Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor and Senior Professor of Parasitology and Professor Janaka de Silva, Senior Professor of Medicine, have been ranked among the world’s top 2% of scientists in a list compiled by Stanford University, USA, and published in the journal PLoS Biology. This listing of the scientists is based on their career-long citation impact until the end of 2019. A total of 15 scientists from Sri Lanka have been listed.

International Day of University Sport (IDUS), officially proclaimed by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organisation (UNESCO) since 2016 was held for the first time in Sri Lanka on 20th of September 2020 at University of Kelaniya

An MoU was signed between the University of Kelaniya and Sri Lanka National Police Service on 23rd of September 2020 at the Senate Room, University of Kelaniya.
The revised MoU was re-signed with the objective of commencing a new BA degree program in Police Science for the academic development of police officers.
