The certificate awarding ceremony of the Department of Sanskrit Studies was held on 22nd of February, 2020. The prime objective of the event was to appreciate and promote the certificate courses on Archaeological Studies, Astrology and Yoga studies.

At a meeting for Directors of International Units of universities organized by the National Science Foundation on 28th January 2020 it was revealed that the University of Kelaniya is placed second among universities in Sri Lanka on Research & Innovation Cooperation funded by the European Union.
