Another session of presenting Senate Awards and Cash Prizes to appreciate the researchers in the University of Kelaniya was held on the 25th of October 2018 at the Senate Room of the university.

Researchers whose papers were published in internationally recognized journals in 2017 and 2018 were appreciated and the Senate Awards and Cash Prizes were awarded to the researchers by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the university. Moreover, Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the university, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and members of the Senate graced the event.

A second year special degree undergraduate of the Visual arts, Design and Performing Arts Unit, Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Humanities, University of Kelaniya received a scholarship award by Ms. Champani Devika Devaraja. A scholarship is being awarded annually by Ms. Champani Devika to a special degree undergraduate who demonstrates academic excellence at the first year examination and this year, the scholarship was obtained by Malki Jayakodi, a second year undergraduate.

Ms. Champani Devika Devaraja is an adroit artist who obtained her first degree from the Department of Fine Arts of the University of Kelaniya and she is also the Founder of Champani Devika Foundation.

The scholarship was awarded by Ms. Champani Devika Devaraja on the 16th of August 2018 at the witness of Senior Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice Chancellor and Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathna, Deputy Vice Chancellor. Prof. Prashanthi Narangoda, Head- Department of Fine Arts, Senior Lecturer Ms. Dulanga Gunarathne and academic staff members of the Visual arts, Design and Performing Arts Unit also graced the event.

The award of air tickets to non- academic staff members who are to participate in the Chinese language and cultural workshop, “Winter Camp” in China was held on the 12th of October 2018 at the Office of the Vice- Chancellor.

The event will be held from the 22nd of October to 04th of November 2018 at the Chong Qing University premises in China. The specialty of this workshop is that all the participants will obtain an opportunity to engage in practical activities relevant to Chinese language and culture. 10 non- academic staff members from the University of Kelaniya will take part in the workshop and the visit will be coordinated by the Confucius Institute, University of Kelaniya.

A discussion between the University of Kelaniya and the High Commission of India was held on the 04th of September 2018 at the Office of the Vice- Chancellor. The discussion was held with the objective of strengthening the relationship between the University of Kelaniya and the High Commission of India and the ideas were exchanged on collaborative research and projects based on Indian folk music. Special attention was paid on seeking the assistance of the High Commission of India and the Indian Cultural Centre for the research projects.
