The second session of Chinese Language Teacher Training Programme organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 09th of November 2018 at the Confucius Institute of the university. The prime objectives of the programme were to provide an opportunity for the school teachers to solve issues faced by them regarding the curriculum and the teaching process and widen their understanding about the Chinese culture.

Ms. Tang Ying, Lecturer- Confucius Institute and Ms. Li JingJing- Lecturer Conducted the lecture on Chinese Culture while Mr. Li Xiao Tian- Lecturer and Ms. Liang Zheng Ping- Lecturer conducted the lecture on Chinese Opera and Dramas. Ms. Tang Ying- Lecturer also conducted a Thaiji Marshal Art training programme.

The Skill Development Programme oraganized by the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Kelaniya was held on the 04th of November 2018 at Hotel Clarion, Kiribathgoda. The prime objective of this programme was to improve skills of postgraduate (MPhil and PhD) students in Statistical Analysis, Information Literacy, Research Methodologies and Scientific Writing.

The programme was held under two sessions and the sessions were conducted by Prof. P.M.C. Thilakarathne, Director- Centre for Distance and Continuing Education and Dr. W.M.C.B. Wanninayake, Director- Staff Development Centre.

The participants were made aware of the data collection and analysis techniques, technical aspects of empirical research and how to develop through the understanding of fundamental theoretical ideas and logic of research.

Krishantha, Deputy Registrar- Exam Branch, Mr. K.B.S.L. Wijerathne, Senior Assistant Registrar- FGS, Mr. H.M.N.C. Herath, Deputy Bursar- FGS graced the occasion which was held under the patronage of Cadre Chair and Senior Prof. N.P. Sunil Chandra, Chairman- Research Council.

“HR IMPELZ- 2018” annual sports meet organized by the second year students of the AHEAD Association of the Department of Human Resource Management, Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kelaniya was held on the 19th of October 2018 at the Saiba ground of the university. The sports meet which was organized with the objective of developing sports skills, creative abilities, organizing skills and mutual understanding between the students, was held for the 09th time.

Each group at the competition comprised of the students from the Department of Human Resource Management and ‘Marians’ group won the championship of the entire competition. Moreover, ‘Space Challenges’ group won the ‘Best Logo’ championship while ‘Alpha Pack’ group won the ‘Best Video’ championship.

Inter- University Taekwondo Championship organized by the Department of Physical Education, University of Kelaniya was held on the 29th and 30th of September 2018 at the Indoor Stadium of the University of Kelaniya. The prime objective of this tournament which was held under the supervision of Sri Lanka Universities’ Sports Association, was to improve sports skills of the undergraduates.

The inauguration ceremony of the event was held under the patronage of Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya. Senior Prof. S.R.D. Kalinga Mudali, Chairman- Board of Sports Instructors and Senior Lecturer Dr. Lanka Ranaweera, Acting Director- Department of Physical Education and the Instructors of Physical Education also graced the event.
