Several sessions of “Upaadhidhaari Vyavasaayakathwa Udaanaya 2018” organized by the Career Guidance Unit, University of Kelaniya in collaboration with National Enterprise Development Authority- NEDA of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce was held on the 22nd, 23rd of September and 06th, 07th of October 2018 at the Auditorium of the Career Guidance Unit, University of Kelaniya.

At this programme which is being organized with the objective of encouraging graduates for self- employment and thus, creating successful entrepreneurs, a training workshop aimed at some selected alumni of the University of Kelaniya was also conducted. Nearly 22 students participated in the programme. The discussions were held on the importance of contributing to the country through self- employment and becoming successful entrepreneurs.

A one-day training workshop on fire extinguishing organized by the Staff Development Centre, University of Kelaniya was held on the 31st of October 2018 at the Auditorium of the Staff Development Centre. The prime objective of this workshop was to make the non- academic staff members aware of how to correctly face an emergency.

Mr. P.D.K.A. Wilson, Chief Deputy Officer- Fire Service Department was the resource person of the workshop and he emphasized on how to methodically face an emergency without being confused. This was a novel experience for the non- academic staff members since it was based on several theoretical activities as well as practical activities.

The first round competitions of “Kalana 2018”: Performances, Media, Art and Literature Competition organized by the Arts Council, University of Kelaniya was held on the 22nd, 23rd and 25th of October 2018 at the university premises. This competition which is organized with the objective of developing art and communication skills also results in strengthening the collaboration among the undergraduates.

The photography competitions were held on the 22nd at the Art Gallery of the university and the two Veteran Photographers Mr. Indranatha Thenuwara and Mr. Henry Rajakaruna represented the board of judges. On the same day, the two Veteran Music Players, Mr. Samantha Perera and Mr. Mahinda Bandara represented the board of judges of the playing competition. The two Veteran Dancers, Mr. Ravibandhu Vidyapathi and Ms. Samanthi Vidyapathi represented the board of judges of the dancing competititon.

The Annual Cultural Exhibition- 2018 organized for the 04th time by the Research Centre for Japanese Studies in collaboration with the Japanese Club was held on the 24th of October 2018 at the university premises. It was organized with the objective of enhancing the cultural awareness among the secondary school students and developing event organizing skills, communication and group work among the university students.

Nearly 500 students representing 53 schools participated in the exhibition and practical activities based on the Japanese culture was a novel experience for the students.

Senior Lecturer Dr. Dilrukshi Rathnayake, Head- Department of Modern Languages, Ms. Naho Komatsubara, Japanese Language Specialist, Ms. Madubhashi Deldeniya, Subject Coordinator- National Institute of Education, academic staff members of the Department of Modern Languages, school teachers, undergraduates and the school children graced the event.
