The first of the research seminar series organized by the Research Council, University of Kelaniya was held on the 07th of November 2018 at the Board Room of the Faculty of Science. The prime objective of this was to establish research culture among the academics representing diverse fields, on order to improve the quality of research, guide research towards national development goals and promote innovations with Patent outcomes that improves livelihood of general public.

The seminar which titled “Researching towards National Development & Commercialization”, was organized aiming the academic staff members of the University of Kelaniya. The seminar was followed by a technical session on Scopus & Scival Facilities for Publishing Research.

Another session of presenting Senate Awards and Cash Prizes to appreciate the researchers in the University of Kelaniya was held on the 27th of December 2018 at the Senate Room of the University.

Researchers whose papers were published in internationally recognized journals in 2017 and 2018 were appreciated and the Senate Awards and Cash Prizes were awarded to the researchers by Prof. D.M. Semasinghe, Vice- Chancellor of the university. Moreover, Senior Prof. Lakshman Senevirathne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor of the University, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments and members of the Senate graced the event.

Annual Colours Awards 2016/17 jointly organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports Council, with the objective of appreciating sports performance of the undergraduates during the academic year was held on the 17th of December 2018 at the Rose Garden Reception Hall, Kadawatha.

The event was held under the patronage of the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. D.M. Semasinghe. 214 sportsmen and 150 sportswomen received University Colours for 23 sports disciplines.

The best sportsman and sportswoman in each sports discipline were awarded best performer awards and those best players were as follows.
